NYC Interview English Toolkit

Practical tools for English-speaking professionals interviewing in New York.

Not another generic "STAR method" worksheet. 30+ niche utilities built around the specific friction points of the NYC market: borough-specific commute math, RSU tax drag, recruiter-vs-hiring-manager messaging, H1B sponsor signaling, and the corporate-speak translators nobody teaches in textbooks.

Built for NYC, not generic

Each tool factors in NY-specific context — MTA commute, NYC income tax stacking, borough cost-of-living spread, visa sponsorship phrasing, and the Wall Street / Tech / Media / Healthcare industry split.

Score, don't just generate

Where most generators spit text and stop, ours score it: STAR story strength, cold-email personalization, salary negotiation room, BATNA power. Numbers you can act on.

Honest limits, every page

Each tool lists what it cannot do. We don't pretend a static form is a career coach. Read the limitations before you trust the output.

Why this toolkit exists

Generic interview advice treats "New York" as interchangeable with "any major city." It isn't. A $130k offer in Manhattan doesn't equal $130k in Austin. A 6-line LinkedIn headline that works in SF reads as try-hard in NYC finance. A networking email that lands in Silicon Valley gets ignored on Wall Street.

Each tool here was built around a specific NYC friction point — borough-level commute math, NY state income tax on equity, the cultural split between SoHo creative agencies and Midtown banks, and the way NYC recruiters (especially third-party) gatekeep differently than in-house ones.

Who this is for: English-speaking professionals interviewing in NYC — relocators, recent grads, career switchers, international candidates on OPT/H1B, and people re-entering the workforce.

Who this is NOT for: senior executives (the math changes at $400k+), commissioned sales roles (variable comp modeling is different), or anyone outside the US hiring market.

How to use this site: Don't try every tool. Pick the 3-5 that match where you are in the funnel. STAR Story Builder + Industry Jargon Decoder for prep; Cost-of-Living Calculator + Offer Comparison for negotiation phase.
